How To Clean Dirt Dauber Nest From Rv Furnace

Topic: Dirt dobber nest in furnace exhaust
Posted By: hbarker on 03/11/10 07:21pm managed to find a clay dobber nest in central heat frazzle. it is loose but WAY back inside it.almost tucked around the corner. I have tried one of those slinky grabber tools , even tried to suck it out with store vac.. Deceit see whatsoever way to disassemble that part of the unit.

I thought I was probably not the first person to have this problem ..
Whatsoever Ideas?

Posted By: texasrvr on 03/11/10 08:16pm I had the same problem. Totally blocked up. Solution was shooting water down the tube. Accept the gas and electrical igniter turned off. Dirt dobber nests will dissolve quickly and the water won't hurt the burner. Worst thing is your feet will get wet.

I prevent nesting by cut a piece of window screen a bit larger and then the hatch cover and then endmost the cover over the screen. I remove it when I utilise the MH and information technology'due south only for storage. My refrigerator hatch cover has window screen hot glued on the within. Never seemed to affect functioning. My furnaces have congenital in stainless steel screens equally standard equipment.

Posted By: othertonka on 03/11/10 x:52pm Don't forget the bleed hose for the refridge. About have a little white plastic screen on the terminate of the hose, but mine became brittle and broke. Have to get a new one. Tried 2 rv parts places but they don't carry them. One RV repair place gave me one from an old refer that he took out of a RV, but I have misplaced it. Oh well I found one at GO RV.com but accept non ordered notwithstanding. Oh well, now I have to check all those other places that all of you posters are talking about, hate mud daubers.

It's not the burner the hose goes into, it's the flue or flash-tube.
Y'all DON'T want to put the hose into the "Fifty"-shapped burner tube that connects to the burner orifice at the gas valve. It goes into the 3" diameter opening that the flame shoots into.

At present, if the problem is in the burner tube, and so one phillips-head screw releases this tube from the unit and information technology can be removed to clean out.
And BTW, be sure your restriction isn't a carbon build-up from an improperly burning unit of measurement.

Posted By: phays on 03/13/10 04:14pm I would remove the burner tube. As said to a higher place, i screw. At a rally I attended, the Atwood rep recommended making a flue brush from a glaze hanger and a shop rag. Brand a modest loop on one end of the hanger wire, fit the rag in the loop and squeeze the loop closed with pliers. Push button this through the flue. I did this but couldn't get the "brush" to curve around the turns. My shop vac hose was almost the aforementioned size as the flue and I used it to suck the "brush" through the flue. But brand sure yous have a firm hold on the "brush" when yous apply the vacuum or it could get sucked into the shop vac.

Will give it a shot.

Be careful, I'm one that would never recommend that since even the heat exchanger core IIRC tin can allow water to collect in the bottom ridges and really increase the rate of rust.

I also doubt yous could fifty-fifty get the h2o to the nest enough to do any more good than using something like a coat hanger, etc. to break it up.

As you have plant out for furnaces the best thing is a screen early to prevent the trouble from e'er happening in the first place.
